Around 1.30am on Thursday, head constable K Dhruva, who was night duty in charge of the Eturnagaram PS in Mulugu district, noticed J Sangeetha, 30, a labourer from Netakaniwada in Eturnagaram, entering the police station.
As Sangeetha claimed to have committed a murder, Dhruva summoned a woman constable to record her statement. She told police that she killed R Srinu, 32, a labourer, from Eturnagaram.
As Sangeetha told police that she has been living at her grandmother M Laxmi's house in the town, police rushed there and found Srinu lying dead in the house in a pool of blood.
She further confessed that Srinu was her childhood friend and, in the past, they sold arrack. However, since a year ago, Srinu started harassing her to fulfil his carnal desires and, vexed with his harassment, she decided to kill him.
"During the early hours of Thursday, Srinu went to Sangeetha's grandmother's house in an inebriated condition and knocked on the door. Sangeetha invited him in with a knife concealed in her sari folds. As he came closer, Sangeetha tied his hands to a pole in the house with an electric wire and mosquito net. While Srinu started requesting her to untie him, she pulled out the knife and stabbed him multiple times in the stomach," Eturnagaram sub-inspector (SI) D Ramesh said.

Hearing the screams of the victim, some neighbours rushed to the house and by then Srinu collapsed.
Subsequently, Sangeetha walked out of the house and went to the police station. En route, she dropped the blood-stained knife on the road. "We registered a case against Srinu in November 2022 for stalking and harassing Sangeetha and arrested him. He came out on bail in January 2023," the SI said.
The accused has been produced before court and sent in judicial remand later in the day.
