In Andhra Pradesh, transfer cash via cellphone from today

HYDERABAD: The department of posts will launch a Mobile Money Transfer Service (MMTS) across the 1,350 post offices in Andhra Pradesh effective from Saturday.
A person who wishes to transfer money to someone in another part of the state should go to his nearest post office and deposit the amount following which postal authorities will SMS a six digit secret code to the mobile phones of both the depositor and the recipient.The recipient can then go to the post office and claim the amount after disclosing the secret code.
Addressing the media, chief postmaster general, AP Circle, BV Sudhakar said the MMTS service will be cheaper than the Money Order (MO) service. The amount which can be transferred through MMTS can range from Rs 1000 to a maximum of Rs 10,000. The minimum charges for transferring are as follows: Rs 45 (Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500) Rs 70 (Rs 1,501- Rs5,000) and Rs 112 (Rs 5,001-Rs 10,000).
In comparison, transferring money through money order entails higher charges. For example, the MO charge for transferring amounts upto Rs 1,500 is Rs 75. The entire process of transfer of money can be completed within five minutes, the chief postmaster general said.
In another development, the Department of Posts has entered into a tie-up with the state government to extend 'Mee Seva' services through 2,347 computerised post offices. Beginning Saturday, citizens can avail of 127 types of services offered by 42 government departments through the post offices. These include income certificates, caste certificates, revenue records and other documents. The department will charge Rs 25 to Rs 30 per service.
The department of posts is also expected to extend the Asheervachanam scheme to other major temples in the state. Currently, the scheme is being implemented in TTD. Under the scheme, the donor will get 'Akshatalu' and a photograph of Sri Venkateswara through post.
Efforts are also on to implement government-sponsored schemes — Bangaruthalli and Abhayahastham — through post offices. Payments to the beneficiaries under these two schemes will be implemented through post offices soon, added the chief postmaster general.
