LUCKNOW: Three-time member of Legislative Council and veteran
Samajwadi Party leader from Auraiya,
Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness. He was 92.
Describing his death as an irreparable loss to the party, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said he was a simple man who did not even bother to get a house constructed in Auraiya town and stayed at his village home.
“He was an example of how a political leader can live a simple life among his people who vote for him,” Akhilesh said in his condolence message.
Yadav, who was elected sarpanch of his village at the age of 21 in 1949, was the head of Auraiya's block, Bhagya Nagar for a decade and a half and a member of the Legislative Council for three consecutive terms. The veteran leader had been fighting illness for long. A native of Kakore village in Auraiya, his last rites were performed on Sunday.
