VADODARA: As sub-inspector GK Chavda wadded through the flood waters on Thursday, with a sleeping toddler curled up in a green plastic tub on his head, onlookers could not help but liken him to Vasudev, who had carried newborn
Krishna in a basket through the raging
Yamuna.
The one-month-old girl and her family were among the 70 stranded in Devpura settlement near Vishwamitri railway station, and rescued by a team lead by Raopura police station sub-inspector GK Chavda.
As the gushing flood waters were chest-high, the team had to tie a rope between two trees to support the stranded families walk to safety. But the young couple, with the month-old daughter in arms, was hesitant to take the risk.
“The couple was in a dilemma. I told them the water level would only rise, and it was necessary to move out immediately,” said Chavda. He then got them to wrap the baby in a blanket and put her in a plastic tub. “Fortunately, I managed to cross without any trouble,” he said.
