CHENNAI: DMK MLA from
Vikkiravandi assembly constituency,
K Rathamani, passed away at the Jipmer hospital in
Puducherry on Friday morning. He was 70.
"Rathamani was diagnosed with
stomach cancer and was under treatment for last 3 months at Jipmer. He breathed his last on Friday morning. His body will be taken to his village," former DMK minister K
Ponmudi told TOI.
Rathamani won the assembly polls by defeating K Velu of the AIADMK by a margin of 6,000 votes.
With his death, the number of vacancies in the assembly has gone up to two. Earlier, Nanguneri constituency fell vacant after sitting MLA H Vasanthkumar resigned following his win in
Lok Sabha elections from Kanyakumari constituency.
