Traffic inspector in Madh boat mishap shifted to hospital
Mumbai: A senior inspector with the traffic department, who was in a boat that capsized at Madh on Saturday night, was moved to Wockhardt hospital on Sunday as her cardiac marker level was elevated. Rehana Shaikh has a history of hypertension and water had accumulated in her lungs after she fell into the water. Three others who had been hospitalised with her are stable, doctors said.
Rehana and a constable were aboard the fishing boat along with nine others on Saturday night.
The group was returning from Ambuva island, where they had been to a dargah for Urs (death anniversary of a saint). Among those on the boat was Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh.
Around 8.30pm, the boat capsized 300 metres from Madh jetty. The MLA said it was high tide. But the group held on to the overturned boat and was quickly rescued by the crew of another boat passing by. “Everyone was pulled out as soon as possible and is safe,” he said.
Rehana had to be rushed to Oscar Hospital, where she was admitted to the ICCU with three others who were pulled out and were in a serious condition.
“Rehana suffered pulmonary edema (fluid accommodation in tissue and air space of lungs). She was having difficulty breathing. Due to her history of hypertension and elevated cardiac marker levels, we moved her to Wockhardt on Sunday. The three other patients were shifted out of the ICCU to wards on Sunday,” said a doctor from Oscar hospital. Cardiac markers are biomarkers measured to evaluate heart functions.
