BJP to hold chakka jam today
NEW DELHI: Days after the government announced a hike in petrol prices, the main opposition party in the city, BJP, plans to hold a chakka jam on Monday. State party chief Vijender Gupta said that the protests were in support of the common man. The areas that will be affected include Lal Quila Chowk, the Ambedkar Nagar BRT corridor, Subhash Nagar More, Uttam Nagar terminal, Moti Nagar Chowk, Khajuri Chowk, opposite Richi Rich on the Ring Road, opposite the Welcome Metro station, Nirman Vihar Metro station chowk, Vikas Marg, Mukarba Chowk, Jehangirpuri, Hamdard Chowk, MB Road, opposite Patparganj Mother Dairy, Nanakpura Gurudwara, Ring Road Moti Nagar and opposite Mangolpuri Patthar Market on the Outer Ring Road.
The chakka jam comes close on the heels of the scathing attack that the central BJP leadership launched on the Congress-led UPA government for the unprecedented hike in petrol prices by Rs 5.
On Sunday too, the state saffron party took out a chakka jam in some areas of the city, though traffic was not affected. Monday's chakka jam is, however, expected to create some traffic problems, though traffic police said it didn't have any special plans to tackle the chakka jam.
Attacking the government for raising prices right after elections in five states, the BJP leadership said the rise in prices was getting astronomical, even as the government indicated that prices of diesel, kerosene and cooking gas may also increase.
