Assembly secretary celebrates birthday in lounge, breaks rules

BENGALURU: Legislative assembly secretary S Murthy has courted controversy for celebrating his birthday in the assembly lounge, with many outsiders participating.
A video clip of the birthday celebration showing Murthy cutting a huge cake, with many people clapping and singing, has gone viral. Actor and MLC Tara Anuradha is also seen offering a piece of cake to Murthy. According to sources, apart from the assembly secretariat staff, many outsiders had also participated in the celebration.
“In the assembly lounge, no such celebrations are allowed.Outsiders are strictly prohibited from entering the area, forget about celebrating somebody’s birthday. Despite being the assembly custodian, it is an unaccepted act by Murthy,” said a secretary staffer.
When contacted, Murthy told TOI that no outsider had participated in the celebration. “First, it was not arranged by me. The staff in charge of housekeeping of the assembly hall and lounge had brought the cake to celebrate my birthday. I only went there and cut the cake. Moreover, there was no one from outside. All those present were secretariat staff,” he claimed.
