AHMEDABAD: Remember the woman character in a web series seen counting on her fingers while involved in the act of intimacy? Or the male protagonist in a Bollywood film who is shown struggling with erectile dysfunction ahead of his wedding? Many men and women of Gujarat who are weighed down by stress are perhaps no different from the figures depicted in popular culture.

According to the data, 45% of women customers ask questions about partner performance. The company, ThatsPersonal, get queries from some 200 customers from Gujarat every month. Dr Paras Shah, a sexologist, said, “Stress and long working hours are the most common problems for urban couples.” He said that often, men do ejaculate prematurely, leaving their partners dissatisfied. “Out of fear, when men avoid intimacy, the severity of the problem only increases,” he said. “Besides, it is most important for men to understand that being unable to perform a couple of times is common and is all right. It mustn’t affect their confidence.”
Samir Saraiya, the founder of the company that has collated the statistics, said: “As most users want to keep the discussion private, online chats — usually done through personal devices — are a convenient way to consult.” The number of queries are going up and it reflects how people are slowly opening up about their intimate life, he said. “As far as Gujarat is concerned, people from Ahmedabad and Surat account for the maximum number of queries,” he said. “This is followed by people from Vadodara, Rajkot, and Jamnagar. These five cities account for 82% of the queries from Gujarat.”
