Police bandobast leaves university students stranded
SURAT: Hundreds of students and their family members were stranded on road outside Veer Narmad South Gujarat University on Monday as police did not allow them to enter the campus. The city police had made heavy bandobast on the university campus in view of the protest by maldhari community.
Many students and their family members were seen taking cover under trees. Many women and young children had come with elder members of the family, but the police didn’t allow anyone inside without identity card issued by the university.
A large number of students along with their family members had come to university for inquiry or some other work. Many come to inquire about various issues as it is the beginning of the academic year.
City police commissioner Satish Sharma said, “Police were asked by vice-chancellor to not allow anyone except students to enter the university campus. Hence, the police strictly enforced the instructions.”
“I did not ask the police to prevent everyone from entering the university campus. I just asked them to ensure that the situation remained under control. They might have taken the steps which they found necessary for ensuring peace,” said VNSGU VC Shivendra Gupta.
