SPR to be operational from mid-September

GURGAON: The much-delayed Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) is likely to be operational in a month’s time as the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) on Tuesday managed to clear the last obstacle in the way of the project. The completion of SPR will resolve the connectivity problem in new sectors 58-80 and expected to reduce the traffic load on the Gurgaon stretch of NH-8.
The 16km-long SPR, which will originate from Gurgaon-Faridabad Road near Ghata and meet NH-8 near Kherki Dhaula via Sohna Road, was held up over rehabilitation of 16 oustees at Rambir Ki Dhani. On Tuesday, Huda conducted a draw of lots and allotted alternative plots to the oustees of SPR in Sector 49, paving the way for completion of the important infrastructure project of the city.
“We successfully conducted a draw of lots and 16 oustees were allotted alternative plots in Sector 49. Now, in the next few days, land will be cleared and work on the remaining 500 metresr of the stretch will be completed at the earliest. We are trying to make SPR operational by September 15,” Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav told TOI.
He said the completion of this road will improve connectivity of Golf Course Road, Faridabad Road, Sohna Road and nearby areas with NH-8 and it will reduce the traffic load on Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. The move is also expected to boost the real estate industry in Gurgaon as many commercial and residential projects are being developed along the SPR.
“The rehabilitation of oustees of SPR, paving the way for completion of this important road, will be a welcome news for homebuyers. SPR will connect New Gurgaon with Delhi via Golf Course Extension Road. It will also provide good connectivity to Faridabad through Gurgaon-Faridabad expressway,” said Pankaj Bansal, director of M3M Group, a real estate firm.
Huda is also going to conduct another draw of lot for oustees of NPR, also known as Dwarka Expressway, on August 24, which will pave the way for completion of the road. “SPR and NPR were important infrastructure projects of the city and it was the priority of the state government and Huda to complete these projects,” said Yadav.
