Two more bus rapid transit routes between Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad

The Pune Municipal Corporation will construct two bus corridors - from Harris bridge at Bopodi to Sancheti junction, and from Rajiv Gandhi bridge (Aundh) to Simla office at Shivajinagar. This is a part of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) expansion plan. The two corridors will link the dedicated bus lanes in Pimpri Chinchwad.

PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The Pune Municipal Corporation will construct two bus corridors - from Harris bridge at Bopodi to Sancheti junction, and from Rajiv Gandhi bridge (Aundh) to Simla office at Shivajinagar. This is a part of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) expansion plan. The two corridors will link the dedicated bus lanes in Pimpri Chinchwad.
While the Nigdi-Dapodi BRTS corridor is expected to open in a few months, bus service on the Kiwale-Sangvi corridor is already functional.
The dedicated corridors will provide seamless connectivity between Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, said the civic administration.
Civic officials said the Aundh corridor will be 6.5km long, while the Mumbai-Pune highway corridor will run for 5.7km. The Aundh corridor connects important locations such as Aundh Gaon, Ganeshkhind, Kasturba Vasahat, Pune University, and the Shivaji Nagar MSRTC bus station.
The second Mumbai-Pune highway corridor connects Shoppers Stop, Khadki railway station, Range Hill. A 3.5km section of this corridor passes through the Khadki cantonment limits.
The work is expected to be completed in 36 months, and PMC has invited bids for the same. The Rainbow BRTS, managed by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML), is already operational in two corridors - Sangamwadi-Vishrantwadi, and the Nagar road route.
A few years ago, the urban development department had convened a high-level meeting in New Delhi to discuss "implementation of high-quality BRTS in Pune metropolitan region", and to resolve all operational and infrastructure design issues. Since the highway stretch near Khadki railway station is narrow, an elevated road was proposed.
PMC says Pune has one of the most ambitious BRTS development plans in India, and plans to establish more than 100km of BRTS. PMC is also set to start work on a BRTS corridor between Patil Estate (Shivajinagar) and Sangamwadi.
