EFLU is a melting pot of all cultures

EFLU is a melting pot of all cultures
Mohammed Dabwan, a first-year PhD student from Yemen, took admission in the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in 2014 purely on the basis of advice from his professors back in his home country. “EFLU has a good reputation in Yemen. My professors back home were EFLU alumni. They were all praise about the university. We were told that if we ever want to go to India for higher studies, EFLU should be our first option.”
Dabwan came to Hyderabad to pursue post-graduation at EFLU.
“When I landed here, I already knew who the best professors were. They were resourceful and obliging, exactly as what I had been told to expect. To top it, EFLU has an amazing library — it’s heaven for students of literature. The only disappointment, however, was the lack of sports facilities,” says Dabwan, who is also an international footballer. He adds, “Love for academics overpowered my love for sports, but you can’t help feel a tinge of disappointment when you don’t have a football field on the campus.”
Speaking about the diversity he encountered on campus and language barrier, he said, “EFLU is a mini India. The campus is small, but the diversity is large. So, initially, it was hard for me to grasp the native language, it still is. The local language is Telugu, but a majority of students were from Kerala. Then there were Delhites, Tamilians and so on. So I gave up on learning a local language and started communicating only in
English. But I have really enjoyed my time at EFLU, which is why I stayed back to pursue research after completing post-graduation. It is one place that makes you fall in love with it,” he said.
