BENGALURU:
Journalist-writer Ravi Belagere, who worked at the intersection of
Kannada literature and
journalism besides giving
crime reporting a racy narrative both in
print and on
TV, passed away in Bengaluru following a heart attack on Friday. He was 62.
Ravi cut his teeth in media writing in
Kannada tabloids and started his magazine in 1995. He was among the few writers in 1980s and 1990s who wrote on Bengaluru’s underworld with extensive ground reporting.
Sources in the family said Ravi complained of chest pain around 12.30am Friday in his office.
His colleagues rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
His columns – ‘Khaas Baat’, ‘O Manase’ and ‘Paapigala Lokadalli’ (a series on Bengaluru’s underworld) — were hugely popular.
Ravi also authored and translated 70 books and was one of the youngest to receive the
Karnataka Sahitya Academy award.
