NEW DELHI: Scores of journalists in the national capital today set off on a protest march against the alleged assault on two women journalists by police personnel at a JNU 'padyatra' yesterday.
Scribes also staged a sit-in outside Police Headquarters and lowered their cameras to the ground as a mark of protest.

A large number of JNU students and teachers were yesterday stopped from marching to the Parliament Complex over various demands, with police resorting to lathi-charge and use of water canons.

Protesting students claimed that the "attack" by the police was "unprovoked", with a woman journalist alleging that a man in uniform molested her and asked her to vacate the place.
In a complaint submitted to the Sarojini Nagar police station, the woman journalist said she was "groped" an Inspector of the Delhi Cantonment police station.
A female photographer also complained of being roughed-up by a policewoman during the protest.

"They took my camera and did not return it. I told them I am from the media, but they were just pulling me away," said the photographer.
Delhi Police has tendered their "deepest apologies" for the attack on the two media personnel and ordered an inquiry into the incident.
"Yesterday's (Friday's) incident was a very unfortunate one. Our deepest apologies to the media. Our intention wasn't to obstruct the media from doing its job," said DCP and Delhi Police spokesperson Madhur Verma in a statement.

The National Commission for Women on Saturday ordered a probe into the alleged manhandling of JNU students and the woman journalist.
The 'padyatra', which started at the varsity's campus, was organised by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) and the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA).
The associations are demanding academic freedom, and accessible and equitable education.
The teachers' body had requested other associations to join the protest march.
