Pune: 50,000 names added to dist electoral register till March 15

PUNE: More than 50,000 new names have been added to the current list of voters in the Pune district till March 15, revealed the figures provided by the election officials.
Pune collector Naval Kishore Ram said till last week, there were over 60,000 forms that had to be cleared by the booth-level officers of the 21 Assembly constituencies. “There are instructions to address all the forms received,” he added.
“We have been getting forms from all constituencies and the voters are getting in touch with the respective booth-level officers (BLOs) in case of discrepancies,” deputy election officer Monica Singh said.

“Though officially all the names registered till 10 days before nomination will be accepted, we request voters to enrol well in advance and not wait for last minute,” added the Pune collector.
Meanwhile, Pune divisional commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said the state will seek the Election Commission’s directions on the distribution of drought relief funds and the same has been conveyed to the relief and rehabilitation officers. The Pune division has over 2,000 drought-affected villages that are supposed to be given the relief.
