First centre for spoken Sanskrit to come up in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will be inaugurating the first Centre for Spoken Sanskrit in Ahmedabad.
The centre will come up at a time when Sanskrit was losing favours even among class X students. According officials earlier nearly eight lakh students opted for Sanskrit as a language in class X but in the recent past only 1.5 lakh students opt for Sanskrit language even in class X.
Officials said that even in Master of Arts with Sanskrit language there were only 33 students this year against nine last year.

Atul Unagar the coordinator of the centre says that there is a Sanskrit promotion foundation but no such centre to promote spoken Sanskrit. We will have different courses for those who want to speak Sanskrit can learn for six days in a week or can even opt for weekend courses. He further said that the fee for the course would only be a token one. He claimed that this was the first centre for spoken Sanskrit.
