Arumugam Thondaman, Sri Lankan Tamil minister, dies

CHENNAI: Savumiamoorthy Arumugam Ramanathan Thondaman, a prominent Tamil representative in the Sri Lankan cabinet, died of a massive heart attack late on Tuesday evening. He was 56.
Thondaman died in Thalangama Base Hospital, where he was rushed to after complaining of a chest pain.
Thondaman was the leader of the Ceylon Workers' Congress and represented the Nuwara Eliya District in the Lankan parliament.

Born on May 29, 1964, Thondaman was the cabinet minister of livestock and rural community development. He was the grandson of prominent unionist Saumyamoorthi Thondaman in Sri Lanka.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
