DEHRADUN: A suicide note was recovered from a farmer in Dadki village of Haridwar district which stated ‘don’t vote for BJP’, police said on Monday.
Farmer Ishwar Chand Sharma, 65, committed suicide on early morning by drinking poison. The farmer died on his way to hospital. In the suicide note he had written, ‘BJP government has destroyed farmers in 5 years. Don’t vote for them otherwise they will make everyone sell tea’.
The police is still verifying the veracity of the letter.

In his suicide note, Sharma alleged that a middleman, who helped him get a loan of Rs 5 lakh from a bank, was blackmailing him for money.
The farmer said that he had hedged a blank cheque with the unnamed middleman for signing as a guarantor while applying loan.
He alleged that after repaying the money to the bank, the middleman threatened to use the cheque to siphon off amount from his account which he had received after selling his farm produce.
“During the initial investigation, it was found that the deceased farmer had taken loan of Rs 5 lakh from a bank with the help of a middleman. The farmer in his suicide note has alleged that the middleman was demanding Rs 4 lakh to settle the matter,” said station house officer Laksar Virendra Singh.

When asked about the suicide note, the officer stated that the letter is being verified to check whether it was written by the farmer or not.
Meanwhile, the Congress slammed the BJP for ignoring, what it claims, the 17th farmer death in the state in last two years.
“This is sad that when Narendra Modi was announcing compensation for farmers in his manifesto, a farmer committed suicide in Laksar because of his wrong policies,” said Congress vice president, Suryakant Dhasmana. BJP’s spokesperson Devendra Bhasin, however, rubbisheed the allegations of the Congress.
