NEW DELHI: The Centre is considering to hold the JEE (Main) exam for admission to engineering and architecture courses four times from next year in view of the changed academic schedule, triggered by the pandemic, even as the National Testing Agency (NTA) plans to introduce options in question papers due to rationalisation of syllabus by various Boards, reports Manash Gohain.

In order to give flexibility so that candidates don’t miss out on an opportunity due to any clash of examinations, the JEE (Main) will be held four times between February and May, 2021, education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said on Thursday during an interaction with students, parents and teachers.
Candidates will have the option to appear in any or all of the four tests and the best performance will be considered for final ranking.
Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said while the syllabus for JEE (Main), 2021 will remain the same as the previous year, a proposal is under examination whereby students will be given the option to answer 75 questions (25 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) out of the total 90. Till now, it was mandatory to answer all 90 questions.
Regarding Class X and XII Board exams, he said consultations with stakeholders are under way for deciding the dates. He said in case students are not able to do practical classes before the examinations, alternatives will be explored.
Regarding NEET-2021 for admission to undergraduate medical courses, he said the schedule is being finalised in consultation with the ministry of health and family welfare and the National Medical Commission. He said the syllabus will remain the same and the mode of the exam — online or offline — will be decided after deliberations. NEET-UG has so far been conducted in pen-paper mode.
