Women trafficked to Saudi recount horror

HYDERABAD: “They hit me with chappals or any object within reach and threatened me if I asked for money or tried to call home. When I couldn’t take it any more, I tried to take my life.” Zainab Begum’s eyes well up with tears as she recounts the horror and abuse she went through more than a year ago in Saudi Arabia where she was sent to work as a domestic help.
It was only after her family appealed to the Indian government that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh rescued her from her fate. But Zainab still has nightmares, says her daughter Rubeena.
