NEW DELHI: The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), who is entrusted to find Anil Kumble's successor would be looking beyond the current list of applicants, a development which may pave the way for the entry of Ravi Shastri, who has remained as a top choice of captain Kohli.
It means that the likes of Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Lalchand Rajput and Dodda Ganesh - who have applied for the job of head coach - won't get a cake-walk.
“This move could also be seen to prop up the candidature of former Indian team director Ravi Shastri as a possible replacement. But there is more to than meets the eye,“ a source said.
It was made clear that CAC would take time to find a new coach and the announcement could come after the West Indies series, which is just before the Sri Lankan series.

Sources also indicated that the board isn't happy with the current list of applicants.
“Sehwag for example doesn't have the coaching experience and won't be the right man to guide India in terms of teaching techniques. Let's see what happens,“ the source added.
When BCCI had advertised the post, the last date to send application was May 31.
Meanwhile, India will have a new coach before the tour of Sri Lanka next month, the BCCI said on Wednesday while admitting that it failed to resolve the differences between Kumble and Kohli.
“Team India will get his new head coach before tour to Sri Lanka. The assignment of the new head coach will be till the next World Cup to be held in June 2019 in England,“ said BCCI acting president CK Khanna.
Another top BCCI official, Rajeev Shukla, said all possible efforts were made to sort out the issues between the captain and the coach.
