MUMBAI: Work on the BMC stretch of the eight-lane Coastal Road from Marine Drive (Princess Street) to Bandra will begin by April-end this year, said civic commissioner Ajoy Mehta.
Mehta, who was attending the Magnetic Maharashtra Summit at Bandra-Kurla Complex, on Monday said the Rs 8,000 crore project has obtained all the 17 clearances including those from the environment ministry, defence, maritime board etc.

“The price bids will be opened next week. We have received five bids. It will take about a month for the process to be completed and work orders to be issued. The BMC has made provisions for the project from its reserve funds,” he said.
The total length of the coastal road on this stretch is 10 km and includes tunnels (2 lanes) for a 3.4 km stretch. Around 90 hectares will be reclaimed from the sea and a 70-hectare green promenade will be created which will also include a bus depot and a car park.
Mehta said bidders have been informed to either use the muck that will be generated for digging the tunnel or to get it from a quarry.
The project will be completed by 2022, he added.
