Uttar Pradesh: Ex-BJP MP Naipal Singh passes away
LUCKNOW: Former BJP MP from Rampur Naipal Singh passed away at his residence in Moradabad following a cardiac arrest on Friday afternoon. He was 79.
UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh and state general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal said Singh’s death was a major loss to the party organisation.
Singh, a retired professor of chemistry, won the Rampur parliamentary seat in 2014 on BJP ticket.
His victory was seen as a big leap for BJP since Rampur is a Muslim-dominated seat.
Singh, however, lost the seat to SP’s Azam Khan in 2019 when SP and BSP struck a prepoll alliance.
Earlier, Singh was a member of the UP Legislative Council, elected from Bareilly-Moradabad Division Graduates constituency.
He was also the secondary education minister in BJP government between 1997 and 2002. During his stint as an MP, Naipal Singh was a member of rules committee and member of the committee on welfare of Other Backward Classes.
