AIZAWL: Twelve-year-old Mizoram girl Carolyn Malsawmtluangi, who received the National Bravery Award on Republic Day for rescuing a minor girl from a human trafficker, shared half of her cash reward amount of Rs 20,000 with the girl she saved.
A resident of the Zuangtui locality in Aizawl city, Malsawmtluangi on Friday went to Thualthu village to meet the girl and gave her Rs 10,000.
Thualthu villagers, who accorded Malsawmtluangi a rousing welcome, said the girl hugged her inside her vehicle.
Malsawmtluangi was awarded for "showing exemplary courage" after she stopped a woman who had kidnapped a seven-year-old girl from a neighbouring village. She first spotted her while playing volleyball with her friends in June last year but assumed that they were related. But after police raised an alarm over a trafficker the next day, Malsawmtluangi spotted the woman again and began talking to her. She offered to take care of the girl while the woman was busy with some work.
Then, finding an opportune moment, Malsawmtluangi ran home carrying the child on her shoulders. The woman trafficker was then nabbed by police.
