'After 8 hours in queue, my pocket was still empty'
Ankit Verma (23) from Faridabad queued up outside the SBI branch at Sector 12 Courts on Saturday morning. His family had completely run out of cash on the third day of the demonetisation exercise. This is his story
I got a call from a friend that there was less crowd at this particular branch. So I went there at 8.30am with five other friends. By then, the crowd had swollen. My father can't leave his job to stand in queue, so I had to go there, abandoning business.

And we waited. None of us had any money to buy food so we all stayed hungry, with the hope of laying our hands on some money at the end of the ordeal.
At 4.40pm, after eight long hours in the queue, the bank authorities said cash was over. The whole day, none of them came out even once to see how we had suffered.
What's even worse: they let in people they knew through the back door to withdraw money. And yet they had the audacity to tell us all to go home and come again the day after.
We protested and even called up the police. But they chased us away. Tired, hurt and dejected, I returned home only to find my younger brother, Ritik (15), down with fever. My mother may have an odd Rs 50 or Rs 100 note to buy medicine, but I have nothing, not even for a packet of biscuits.
I don't want to go to the bank again tomorrow, but do I even have an option?
Why was the government in such a hurry to demonetise without doing its homework?
