SU to begin classes for spoken Sanskrit

RAJKOT: Saurashtra University will soon start spoken Sanskrit classes. The vice-chancellor has given mandate to Sanskirt department that students and professors should communicate in Sanskrit only. The center will be inaugurated on Thursday by former chief commissioner of election commission of Indian N Gopalswami.
First batch of 30 students have enrolled for the certificate course.
Vice chancellor of Saurashtra University professor Pratapsinh Chauhan said, “We don’t have practice to communicate in Sanskrit like English and Hindi. People mug-up Sholaks rather than understanding the beauty of the language. The class is aimed at promoting Sanskrit as language of communication.”
This class will in run on week ends. There is no age bar for enrolment. The faculty comes from various Sanskrit universities from across the country like Kashi Vidhyapith, Sanskrit University Delhi. tnn
