NEW DELHI: Low-cost carrier SpiceJet will electrify the remote village of Baruahchuck in Majuli district of Assam. It will set a 'solar microgrid' on the site in about 75 days, which will help bring electricity to approximately 70 households, one school, an anganwadi, two temples, apart from street lighting.
'Solar microgrid' is a small-scale power grid that can operate independently or in conjunction with the area's main electrical grid to provide electricity to a limited number of households.

“In this one-of-a-kind initiative ‘roshan hoga desh hamara’ launched on Diwali, the airline has adopted the remote village of Baruahchuck. The airline aims to provide sustainable energy access through solar microgrid to the people living here thereby improving their quality of life,” the airline said in a statement.
Recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest river island, Majuli is situated close to the Brahmaputra river and hence is frequently flooded.
SpiceJet chairman Ajay Singh said: “On occasions like these, we remember our fellow countrymen who are not as fortunate as us. This Diwali we wanted to try and light up the lives of those who have never had electricity. And so, we are helping provide electricity to the village of Baruahchuck in Assam. This is SpiceJet's small contribution to improving the lives of the people of this village.”
