ADELAIDE: Australian batsman Usman Khawaja, who pulled up injured in the second Test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, made it clear on Tuesday that he is prepared to open the innings in the first Test against India, if needed.
"The only thing it affects is how fast I have to run off the field,” Khawaja was quoted as saying by a Melbourne radio channel.
"I love batting at No.
3 because you often get a little rest, little breather, put your pads on nice and easy, watch the openers scurry off. But it doesn’t make a difference whatsoever.”
Khawaja also pleaded with mediapersons to respect his family’s privacy following his older brother Arsalan’s arrest by New South Wales Police on Tuesday.
According to a report on the Cricket Australia website, the 39-year-old was arrested in Sydney in after a notebook was found at the University of New South Wales, the contents of which subsequently led to the wrongful imprisonment of a UNSW employee.
He has been charged with forgery and attempting to pervert justice.
‘No way linked to my brother Arsalan’s investigation’
Usman made it clear that he is in no way linked to the investigation. "It’s a matter for the police to deal with. Out of respect for the process, it would be inappropriate for me to make any further comment. I just ask you to please respect my privacy, and my family’s privacy during this time,” he stated.
