BENGALURU: The highly decomposed body of a 58-year-old Kendra
Sahitya Akademi awardee was found at his residence in
Kengeri on Sunday morning.
Kengeri police suspect
Dr G Nanjundan, a professor with
Statistics department of Bangalore University might have died due to cardiac arrest and are waiting for the
autopsy report which they hope will reveal the exact cause for his death.
Nanjundan was known for translating into Tamil several Kannada literary works including
U R Ananthamurthy’s
Bhava and
Avasthe.
Nanjundan was a recipient of Kendra Sahitya Akademi award in 2012.
Police said Nanjundan’s wife and son, who live in Chennai, rushed to their Kengeri house as he was not responding to calls since December 18.
“They found the door locked from inside. As there was no response to their knocks, they informed police. We rushed to the spot and broke open the door. We found Nanjundan’s decomposed body on his bed,” Kengeri police said.
Police suspect Nanjundan might have died in the night of December 18.
Police, who have taken up a case of unnatural death, said Nanjundan’s family members have not suspected any foul play. Police handed over the body to the family members on Sunday.
“Doctors who conducted the post-mortem examination told us that the death may be due to cardiac arrest. However, we don’t want to jump into any conclusion and are waiting for autopsy report to know the exact reason behind the death,” an investigating officer said.
