NEW DELHI:
Uber CEO Travis Kalanick met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the
Digital India event in San Jose, California on Sunday. Kalanick discussed the future of urban mobility in India with the PM, Uber India tweeted after the meet.
Speaking to the Times of India, a company spokesperson said that in his meeting with PM Modi, the Uber CEO spoke about "creating hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurship opportunities and reducing congestion through carpooling."
The cab aggregator services company announced last week that it was going to launch its car-pooling service named
UberPool in Bengaluru, while keeping in touch with the traffic police department to increase the utilization of cars on the road.
Through UberPool, the company aims to solve some of the toughest problems cities are facing today, whether it's congestion, pollution, or lack of access to transportation.
The company plans to expand this to other cities in India soon and says it is committed to transforming urban mobility for over 1.2 billion Indians.
