Gang manipulating weighbridges to steal crores of iron bars busted

Gang manipulating weighbridges to steal crores of iron bars busted
Jaipur: The crime branch of Rajasthan police has busted a gang involved in pilfering tons of TMT iron bars running into several crores from construction sites by manipulating weighbridges using a remote device.
ADGP (Crime) Dinesh MN stated that the CID-CB team was tracking information related to a gang believed to be collaborating with a transport company.

This gang was suspected of stealing TMT bars from trucks transporting consignments to a construction project at a private university, under the Bagru police station in Jaipur.
He said that the accused pilfered TMT bars up to Rs 3 crore.
Dinesh said that a team led by sub-inspector (SI) Daya Ram Choudhary assistant sub-inspector, and (ASI) Shailendra Sharma busted the racket.
Police said that they have detained suspects in the case but two main accused are on the run.
The police revealed that this entire operation was facilitated with the assistance of the boss of a transportation company.
As per officials, a private university commissioned a major construction project. The construction firm responsible for the project directly procured TMT bars from the manufacturing company.

In turn, this construction company enlisted the services of a transporter to facilitate the transfer of TMT bars from the goods train to the construction site using trucks.
The TMT bars were initially delivered by train to Kanakpura railway station. The consignments would be packed on the trucks but instead of sending trucks directly to the construction site, he rerouted them to Muhana, where the transporter had a sizable warehouse.
“The gang was involved in stealing TMT bars from the trucks, sometimes even up to 10 tonnes at a time,” according to an official.
The accused had installed a small electronic device in the bundle of electric cables to conceal it. “This device enabled them to alter the weight measurements remotely," the official added.
Once the truck was positioned on the weighbridge, the transporter's worker would manipulate the machine, altering the reading to prevent any discrepancies from being detected.
The preliminary investigation has also revealed that the accused reported to have pilfered TMT bars from other construction sites too.
