House uproar over scam

Guwahati: The last
GUWAHATI: The last sitting of the 12th legislative assembly ended on Tuesday on a rather noisy note sans any business. For the fifth day of the session on Tuesday, the Opposition sought dismissal of ministers who might be involved in the multi-crore scam in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council as detected by the Comptroller and Auditor General in a special audit.

An adamant Opposition led by AGP continued with its demand to include all departments of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council indicted in the multi-crore scam for the CBI probe. As soon as the house assembled, leader of the opposition and former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta raised the demand and called for dropping of the ministers, who might be involved. The ruling party members, too, raised their voices, objecting to the Opposition demand and what prevailed was utter chaos till speaker Tanka Bahadur Rai urged members to cooperate in running the assembly. But he was forced to adjourn the house for the day.

The assembly session has never been this unruly. The Opposition ruckus in house over the NC Hills Autonomous scam reached its peak on Friday, forcing Speaker Tanka Bahadur Rai to suspend BJP legislator Prasanta Phukan for two days for playing cymbals inside the assembly while demanding sacking of ministers who might be involved in the scam along with his colleagues. tnn
