Cancer screening centres in all Telangana districts soon, says MP Kavitha

Soon cancer screening centres will be opened in all districts, said Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha at the 18th foundation day of Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Centre on Friday. Currently, there is only one MNJ Cancer Hospital in the city for cancer treatment and therefore it was proposed to start cancer screening centres in all districts.

HYDERABAD: Soon cancer screening centres will be opened in all districts, said Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha at the 18th foundation day of Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Centre on Friday. Currently, there is only one MNJ Cancer Hospital in the city for cancer treatment and therefore it was proposed to start cancer screening centres in all districts.
Kavitha said both private and government hospitals should have a synergy is detecting and providing treatment for cancer patients while adding that every year over lakhs of people were dying of cancer and a large number of cases were being detected.

Kavitha, also urged Nandamuri Balakrishna, the chairman, board of trustees, Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital to consider Nizamabad parliamentary constituency, for establishing a satellite centre of the hospital.
Referring to Balakrishna as ‘Anna’ (elder brother), Kavitha lauded him for continuing the legacy of his father NT Rama Rao in the service of the public. She pointed out NTR who had served as AP’s chief minister, had started the hospital as a 50-bedded hospital and now it had been upgraded to a 500-bedded hospital.
Kavitha advised all women to undergo a breast and cervical cancer-check up every year. “It is not right to neglect health as it can be treated in the initial stages,” she said.
Kavitha said CM K Chandrasekhar Rao is someone who is concerned about the health of the people and had demonstrated it in several ways. She said there were 50,000 patients suffering from Elephantiasis in Telangana. “When we took their plight to the notice of the CM, he immediately approved ₹1,000 per month as pension for each patient. She said for patients with kidney ailments requiring dialysis, he had sanctioned free buses to travel for their treatment. She said 40 dialysis centres in government hospitals across the state had also been opened adding that there is a need for more.
