'All-girls or solo is how women opt to travel'
MUMBAI: Whether they are young or old; single, in a relationship or married; employed or unemployed; women are increasingly discovering the freedom that comes with travelling in an all-women group or going solo, said a survey by an online travel portal.
“A majority (42%) of women said they would travel in women only groups for a sense of freedom and independence.
The second most popular reason, at 27%, was to have more fun on their own,“ said the online survey on women travel.
Most women who travel by themselves or in womenonly groups fell in two agegroups, one between 26 and 30 years of age and the other comprised those over 40.
In India, the most prefer red destinations were Andamans, Goa, Kerala and Rajasthan in that order; while for foreign holidays the top destinations were Europe, Dubai UAE, Singapore, Australia and Maldives.
“Female travellers seem more inclined towards activities than males,“ said the survey carried out by makemytrip. “While most men enjoy spending a relaxing time at a particular destination, women want to make the most of their travel to feel free and enthusiastic.“
The survey, which gathe red responses from 300 women from across the country, said one-third of them had gone on all-women trips while 13% had travelled solo. Solo travel continues to be a concern for women in India, as regards security.
Ranjeet Oak of makemytrip said the number of queries from women travellers is on the rise. “It suggests that women are now pushing the boundaries of family constraints, budget and time and are more than willing to explore new destinations,“ he said.
