Court denies bail to students who showed black flags to Yogi Adityanath
UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
LUCKNOW: Additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) Sunil Kumar on Friday rejected bail pleas of 11 students including two girls who had showed black flags to chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday during his visit to Lucknow University to attend a function.
The court had on Thursday sent them to 14-day judicial custody. The court had summoned the entire case diary from Hasanganj police station for considering the bail pleas and after going through records stated that the offences were of serious nature and hence the applicants did not deserve bail.
Affiliated to Samajwadi Party Chhatra Sabha and All India Students' Association, these students were arrested when they blocked the convoy of Yogi and showed him black flags to protest increase in violence against minorities, women and dalits in the state.
They were also protesting against "saffronisation" of the academic institutions.
