Seems like ban on the controversial movie Padmaavat is turning into a boon for the Rajasthan tourism as the influx of tourists has suddenly increased in the state. The movie’s subject revolves around legendary queen Padmini, who was extremely pretty. The region recorded a significant increase in the number of tourists in the month of December 2017.
The entire Udaipur and Chittorgarh belt of Rajasthan was flooded with tourists from all over the country during the month of December and first week of January. These positive numbers were reported after the controversy over Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period cinema ‘Padmavati’ that was banned in the country. However, after much unnecessary hullabaloo, the film is all set to release on 25th January 2018 after being re-titled ‘Padmaavat’ and a few other changes.

Considered as Rani Padmini’s hometown, Chittorgarh has witnessed significant number of tourists. The number of tourists recorded in the city last year in December was 40,733 while this year in the same month the number reached 81,009! Rani Padmini used to live in renowned Chittorgarh Fort and this is the place where she performed ‘jauhar’ (act of self-immolation to protect honour) along with several other women in the fort after her husband Rawal Ratan Singh (Rajput ruler of Chittor) got defeated by Alauddin Khilji (ruler of the Delhi Sultanate) in a fierce battle.

Chittorgarh’s assistant tourist officer Sharad Vyas informed that tourists are quite interested in knowing all about the place where Queen Padmini belonged to. In fact, the town has become suddenly famous with all the Padmaavat controversy.

"People have become more aware about history. They come and ask about stories related to Padmini, (her husband) Rawal Ratan Singh and Alauddin Khilji. Surprisingly, they come prepared with historical facts and want to see the places where history was made," told a registered government guide in Chhitorgarh.

Maximum tourists are interested in seeing the mirror where, as per legend, Alauddin Khilji saw queen Padmini’s pretty face and fell in love with her along with the place where the queen performed jauhar with 16,000 other women living in the fort to save her honour.

Tourism officials informed that maximum rush was recorded on the day of Christmas (25th December, 2017) and on New Year’s Eve (31st December, 2017). The rising number of tourists in the region only signifies people’s curiosity and keenness to know about the life story of Rani Padmini.
