Volunteers try to clean up CP with Gandhigiri

NEW DELHI: On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, hundreds of children from Delhi schools tried "Gandhigiri" at Connaught Place to motivate people to keep the capital clean.
Led by NGO Sulabh, around 200 schoolchildren, widows from Vrindavan and around 50 'liberated' female manual scavengers from Rajasthan not only cleaned paan-stained walls but also painted the ones in the inner circle of Connaught Place.
"The children distributed flowers to those littering the area and cleaned it in front of them, just like in the movie Lage Raho Munnabhai. Some apologised immediately, while some were ashamed and guilty," said Madan Jha, spokesperson, Sulabh International.
On Swachh Bharat Abhiyan completing one year, the focus has been on promoting civic sense and responsibility towards personal and public hygiene.
"The crowd was led by Bindeshwar Pathak, who is a sanitation expert and a Gandhian himself," said Jha.
