The last rites of
filmmaker K R Mohanan who passed away at the age of 69 in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday was performed in Thrissur today. He was on treatment for stomach related ailments at the hospital for a week.
His prominent films include "Ashwathama" (1978), "Purushartham" (1987) and "Swaroopam" (1992). He was also an accomplished documentary filmmaker.
A graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India, Mohanan was instrumental in setting up the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-backed Kairali TV and headed the channel’s programming during its early years.
He also headed the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said Mohanan had brought laurels to the Malayalam film industry.
Prominent people from the industry including Kamal, Sibi Malayil and Beena Paul paid homage to the veteran director.
