Yusuf Memon, Tiger Memon's brother and blasts convict, dead

Yusuf Memon, a 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case convict and a brother of absconding accused Tiger Memon, died on Friday at Nashik Road Prison in Maharashtra's Nashik district. The cause of death was yet to ascertained and the body would be sent to Dhule for autopsy. Yusuf was accused of allowing his flat and garage at Al- Husseini building in Mumbai for terrorist activities.

MUMBAI: Yusuf Memon (54), the younger brother of Tiger memon convicted in the 1993 serial bomb blast that killed 257 people and wounded more than 713, died of heart attack in Nashik Central Jail early Friday morning.
Yusuf Memon is the younger brother of 1993 serial bomb blast mastermind Tiger Memon and Dawood aide.
The Nashik Central authorities confirmed that early morning at around 7 am Yusuf reported uneasiness and complaint of chest pain after he woke up and was brushing his teeth.
He was rushed to nearby government Nashik civil hospital where he was declared dead before admission.
His body has been sent for post mortem to Dhule medical college. Sources said that the memon family members have rushed to Dhule to claim the body. Sources said that the family is yet to take a call whether to bury him in Dhule or bring his body for burial on Saturday said a jail source.
Yusuf's brother Yukub Memon was hanged to death in 2015.
Yusuf was suffering from chronic schizophrenic and due to his health condition, the court spared him death penalty and awarded a life term.
In 2007, Yusuf was convicted of abetment and conspiracy and given life imprisonment by the TADA court. Yusuf was also found guilty for allowing his flat to be used for conspiracy meetings. The special court had also convicted his brothers Yakub, Essa and sister in law Rubina Memon on the grounds that Yusuf, Rubina and Essa resided together at Al-Hussaini building at Mahim and were present when several conspiratorial meetings had taken place in the their flats in that building.
Memon brothers were also charged for using their Mahim residence store arms and explosives like RDX. Investigators said that Yusuf was youngest of the memon siblings and was unmarried at the time of the crime. He also fled along with other members of family to Dubai just a day prior to March 1993 serial blast.
