Former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna passes away

Mahipal Maderna, former public health engineering department minister of Rajasthan and accused in the sensational Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case, passed away in Jodhpur on Sunday morning.

JODHPUR: Mahipal Maderna, former public health engineering department minister of Rajasthan and accused in the sensational Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case, passed away in Jodhpur on Sunday morning.

He had been diagnosed with stage IV malignancy in his oral cavity and had been undergoing treatment first at Mumbai and then Chennai after the high court had first granted him first interim bail in September last year and a permanent bail in August this year.
Maderna breathed his last at his Jodhpur residence at about 6.30am.
"My deepest condolences on the passing away of former minister and senior Congress leader Mahipal Maderna. I am praying to God to give strength to the bereaved family members to bear this loss and give peace to the departed soul," tweeted CM Ashok Gehlot.

“Today morning at about 6.30am, he breathed his last at his home. He would now be taken to his parental village Chadi in Osian subdivision of Jodhpur and a funeral would be conducted in the evening,”,said Ram Prakash, a family friend.

Maderna returned to Jodhpur during panchayat elections and was at home since then. He was undergoing therapies at his home.
Maderna, son of a Congress doyen late Parasram Maderna, had been sacked on October 16, 2011, few days after he was arrested for his alleged role in abduction and murder of an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) Bhanwari Devi in 2011 and was judicial custody since then until he was granted bail in August.
