NEW DELHI: BJP workers held a demonstration outside the CPM office on Sunday to protest the murder last week of a colleague allegedly by supporters of the Left party in Kerala.
Police detained around 150 protestors.
Pramod, a 38-year-old BJP worker, was attacked with bricks during victory celebrations of a Left candidate at Kaipamangalam in Thrissur district on Thursday.
He died on Friday.
BJP district president A Nagesh alleged that some of the CPM activists who carried out the attack against Pramod were accused in a case relating to the murder of the Yuva Morcha leader Sathyesh in 2006.
He also alleged that the CPM supporters had unleashed a series of violent acts in different part of the district on Thursday under the cover of victory celebrations.
The Left Democratic Front emerged the winner of the Kerala state polls, the results of which were declared on Thursday, May 19.
CPM district secretary K Radhakrishnan denied that the CPM was involved in the murder or in any other violence in the district. He added that the area is an RSS stronghold and that there are local disputes between activists of the BJP and RSS.
A BJP delegation led by transport minister Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to meet President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday to lodge a formal protest about the violence that took place in Kerala on May 19-20.
BJP chief Amit Shah on Saturday accused the Left of "violating" the people's mandate. He said the BJP "will not sit quiet and will fight on the streets if the cycle of violence continues".
