Indian scientists among recipients of Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics
PUNE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the Indian scientists who along with their team detected the gravitational waves for the first time, for being the recipients of the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics.
“Congratulations to the Indian scientists who are among the recipients of the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics.
These scientists have been awarded for detection of gravitational waves, an exceptional scientific accomplishment,” tweeted Modi in two consecutive tweets.
The $3 million award will be shared between the three founders of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) who will share $ 1 million amongst and the remaining $2 million will be divided among 1012 contributors which include 1005 authors of the paper and seven scientists who made contributions for the success of LIGO. The award will be given later in the year.
