Jews to write to govt for minority tag
When Jewish couples want to register their marriages or get a newborn's birth certificate, ignorance about their religion often comes in the way.
To combat this, the tiny community — numbering just around 4,000 in India — has decided to petition the ministry of minority affairs to be notified as a minority.
When Sopher, chairman of Sir Jacob Sassoon and Allied Trusts, had a meeting with minority affairs minister Najma Heptulla in October last year, it was pointed out that the list of Indian Jews wasn't mentioned in the census.
