Kerala: Congress leader Prayar Gopalakrishnan dies

Congress leader and former Chadayamangalam MLA Prayar Gopalakrishnan died on Saturday. He was 72. Gopalakrishnan, who was the Travancore Devaswom Board's former president, suffered a heart attack while he was on his way to Kollam from Thiruvananthapuram. Though he was rushed to a private hospital, doctors could not save his life.

T'PURAM: Congress leader and former Chadayamangalam MLA Prayar Gopalakrishnan died on Saturday. He was 72. Gopalakrishnan, who was the Travancore Devaswom Board's former president, suffered a heart attack while he was on his way to Kollam from Thiruvananthapuram. Though he was rushed to a private hospital, doctors could not save his life.
He has served as the chairman of Milma for a long period since 2000.
He was also the member of the national diary development board. He was known for his firm stand taken against entry of women to Sabarimala when he was TDB president. He leaves behind wife S Sudharma and children Dr Rani Krishna, Dr Veni Krishna and Vishnu G Krishnan.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, ministers, opposition leader V D Satheesan and several Congress leaders condoled Gopalakrishnan's death. The chief minister recollected Gopalakrishnan's contributions to the cooperative sector, especially when he was the chariman of Milma.
