Twin sisters post identical NEET scores
The 18-year old judwa sisters, Prachi and Purvi Chunawala, are daughters of an engineer and a doctor.
AHMEDABAD: Identical twin sisters from Bhavnagar in Gujarat not only have same tastes and hobbies of music and painting but also get identical scores in national exams. The judwa sisters--Prachi and Purvi Chunawala--18-year old daughters of an engineer and a doctor-have recently taken admission in Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry through NEET to pursue medicine together.
Their National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) score was a tie at 547 out of 720.
Jatin Chunawala, a senior scientist at Bhavnagar-based CSMCRI and the twins' father, told TOI that the girls have been toppers throughout their academics, fiercely competing with each other. “Their score card has differed by only a few marks. The trend continued in Class X where Prachi had scored 99.96 percentile whereas Purvi had 99.97. In Class XII (science), both the sisters had 99 percentile. Their NEET score was identical at its best 547 out of 720," he said.
Despite having same NEET score, merit ranking of twin sisters was different at 193 and 200. This was because Prachi had scored 310 marks in biology while Purvi's score was 298. The sisters, six ranks apart in the merit list, got admission in AIIMS at Jodhpur and Raipur respectively . Not ready to part ways, they instead chose JIPMER, an institution of national importance in Puducherry, where they could study together.
Medical fraternity veterans said that there are instances of siblings entering the field one after another but twins are rare. More rarer is twins posting identical score in national exams such as NEET.
The duo's mother Lalita Chunawala is a medical officer. She said that it was the girls' long-cherished dream to become doctors that motivated them. “We are happy and proud for them and wish that they bring out the best in each other always,“ she said, adding that Prachi had earlier chosen A Group in class XI but changed it just after 15 days, joining her sister in B Group.
For Prachi and Purvi, each other is the best friend. “We have similar interests and similar friend circle. We both want to pursue post-graduation after MBBS but we are still to decide on discipline,” said Prachi, adding that they love to read magazines and listen to music. Students of Gyanmanjari School in Bhavnagar, the sisters want to serve the society through their profession.
