PATIALA: Eminent Novelist
Dalip Kaur Tiwana, 84, was cremated in Patiala at
Veer ji cremation ground on Saturday at Rajpura road. She passed away on Friday afternoon at a private hospital in Mohali.
Recipient of Padma Shri and
Sahitya Akademi awards, Tiwana, who wrote over 50 books including Novels, fiction, short stories and autobiographies, was undergoing treatment for her lungs infection from over the last two weeks.
The dead body of Dalip Kaur Tiwana was brought to her residence at
Punjabi university in the morning while it was taken to the cremation ground at 12 noon.
Dalip's son
Simranjit Singh lit the pyre while the senior district officials and eminent personalities from the field of literature, including Tiwana’s students turned writers, were present at the cremation ground on Saturday. Punjab Arts Council Chairman Surjit Patar also attended the cremation.
Patiala deputy commissioner Kumar Amit paid floral tributes to Tiwana on behalf of Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh. The Bhog Ceremony will be held at Punjabi university Gurdwara on February 9.
