Army conducting probe into ‘affair’ of 2 officers after wife complains

Army conducting probe into ‘affair’ of 2 officers after wife complains
NEW DELHI: The Army is conducting a court of inquiry (CoI) against a Major and a woman officer for allegedly having a sexual affair after the former’s wife complained to higher authorities, handing over a video and pictures purportedly of the two accused in “compromising positions” to the defence ministry and Army Wives’ Welfare Association.
Sources on Monday said the Major, a Para-Special Forces officer, had apparently filmed the video and clicked pictures with the woman officer, also a Major posted with military intelligence, on his mobile phone last year.

The Para-SF officer’s wife later got hold of the “incriminating evidence”, converted it into a CD and then handed it over to Army authorities.
The CoI, being held under the jurisdiction of the Udhampur-based Northern Army Command, is yet to pronounce its verdict after ascertaining the authenticity of the video and pictures.
The two Majors, who have been “attached” to a unit for the CoI, have denied all allegations, calling the compliant “frivolous and baseless”.
The armed forces have been hit by a string of such scandals in recent years. The IAF, for instance, sacked a fighter pilot who was indicted by a CoI for having an affair with a senior officer’s wife in Jodhpur.
The Navy, on its part, sacked two commander-rank officers in Mumbai, one for having an extra-marital affair and the other for sending lewd text messages to several women.
