Mentally ill man confesses to killing father for property

NAVI MUMBAI: Koparkhairane police has arrested the suspect schizophrenic son Nikhil Dahotre (31) for allegedly murdering his own father Vijay Kumar Dahotre (62), a retired central government auditor, at their 5th floor apartment in New Krishna CHS, sector 14, Koparkhairane.
The murder incident had occurred on Monday around 1.30 pm after which the injured son was admitted to NMMC hospital in Vashi.After discharge from hospital, he was interrogated till past midnight at Koparkhairane police station and based on circumstantial evidence against him, Nikhil was arrested at 1.30 am on Tuesday.
Initially, the police had registered murder case against unidentified person as Nikhil had claimed that two men had assaulted him and his father.
Senior inspector Shivaji Awate said, "We have recovered a blood soaked knife in Nikhil's trouser in his room and the victim Vijay Kumar Dahotre (62) had also sustained multiple slash injuries on his face apart from assault on his head with a cooker and hammer.
Also, Nikhil's maternal uncle has given statement to the police that Nikhil had been repeatedly quarreling with his parents for the past one week and had even done online purchase of a knife, which he had used for threatening his parents by tearing the pillows at home and had told that after his parents die, he will be the sole property owner."
