MUMBAI: The Shivaji Nagar police have booked a female doctor for causing death due to negligence after a newborn died in her clinic in Shivaji Nagar slums in 2019.
The police booked Dr Gulnar Shaikh after the medical board at JJ Hospital gave its opinion. "There was mismanagement on the part of treating doctors in this case amounting to gross Negligence," the board said.
According to the police, the complaint was lodged by Imran Khan, the brother of Shabira whose newborn baby died during treatment.
Shabira, who was pregnant and writhing in pain, was admitted to the Shabnam Clinic where Dr Shaikh was treating her. Immediately after the baby was born, he had breathing problems and the doctor could not arrange oxygen for him, leading to his death. Khan alleged negligence but as it was a medico-legal case, it was referred to the JJ medical board which last week gave its findings.
